'বেগম মেরী বিশ্বাস' বিমল মিত্রের অনবদ্য সৃষ্টি। প্রতিটি চরিত্র অসাধারণ দক্ষতার সাথে ধীরে ধীরে তৈরী করেছেন লেখক। গুণ-ত্রুটি-দোষ, লোভ-লালসা-উদাসীনতা, উত্থান-স্হিতি-পতন নিপুণ হাতে দুই মলাটের মধ্যে উপস্থাপন করা হয়েছে।কাহিনী অথবা ইতিহাস যাই বলা হোক, এই উপন্যাস বাংলাদেশে নবাব সিরাজউদ্দৌলার শেষ এবং ইংরেজ শাসনের সূচনা নিয়ে লেখা। অন্যরকম দৃষ্টিভঙ্গিতে লেখা এই উপন্যাস বুঝতে শেখায় সাদা-কালোর বাইরে একটি রঙের উপস্থিতি- ধূসর।
বেগম মেরী বিশ্বাস নবাবের শেষ সময়ের কাহিনী। নবাবের শেষ সময়, তার পতন এসব নিয়ে আগ্রহ থাকলে বইটা পড়ে দেখা উচিত। আর আমার মত ইতিহাসে কোনো আগ্রহ না থাকলে শুধু উপন্যাস পড়ার আগ্রহ নিয়ে শুরু করলেও বইটা ভাল লাগবে। বইটির সমাপ্তিটা অনেক ভাল লেগেছে, অপ্রত্যাশিত সমাপ্তি।
