বাংলা দেশের ইতিহাস বইটি ড. রমেশচন্দ্র মজুমদার এর ইতিহাস বিষয়ক গবেষণা গ্রন্থ। ভারতবর্ষের প্রায় প্রতি প্রদেশেরই নাম ও সীমা কালক্রমে পরিবর্তিত হইয়াছে। শাসন-কার্যের সুবিধার জন্য এক ইংরেজ আমলেই একাধিকবার বাংলা দেশের বিভিন্ন অংশ বিভিন্ন প্রদেশের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হইয়াছে। এখন যে ভূখণ্ডকে আমরা বাংলা দেশ বলি, এই শতাব্দীর আরম্ভেও তাহার অতিরিক্ত অনেক স্থান ইহার অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল। আবার সম্প্রতি বাংলা দেশ দুইভাবে বিভক্ত হইয়া দুইটি বিভিন্ন দেশে পরিণত হইয়াছে। সুতরাং এই পরিবর্তনশীল রাজনৈতিক বিভাগের উপর নির্ভর করিয়া বাংলা দেশের সীমা নির্ণয় করা যুক্তিযুক্ত নহে। মোটের উপর, যে স্থানের অধিবাসীরা বা তাহার অধিক সংখ্যক লোক সাধারণত বাংলা ভাষায় কথাবার্তা বলে, তাহাই বাংলা দেশ বলিয়া গ্রহণ করা সমীচীন। এই সংজ্ঞা অনুসারে বাংলার উত্তর সীমার হিমালয়ের পাদদেশে অবস্থিত কয়েকটি পার্বত্য জনপদ বাংলার বাহিরে পড়ে। কিন্তু বর্তমান কালের পূর্ব ও পশ্চিমবঙ্গ, আসামের অন্তর্গত কাছাড় ও গোয়ালপাড়া এবং বিহারের অন্তর্গত পূর্ণিয়া, মানভূম, সিংহভূম সাঁওতাল পরগণার কতকাংশ বাংলার অংশ বলিয়া গ্রহণ করিতে হয়। প্রাচীন হিন্দু যুগেও এই সমুদয় অঞ্চলে একই ভাষার ব্যবহার ছিল কিনা, তাহা সঠিক বলা যায় না। কিন্তু আপাতত আর কোনও নীতি অনুসারে বাংলা দেশের সীমা নির্দেশ করা কঠিন। সুতরাং বর্তমান গ্রন্থে আমরা এই বিস্তৃত ভূখণ্ডকেই বাংলা দেশ বলিয়া গ্রহণ করিব। প্রাচীন হিন্দু যুগে সমগ্র বাংলা দেশের কোন একটি বিশিষ্ট নাম ছিল না। ইহার ভিন্ন ভিন্ন অঞ্চল ভিন্ন ভিন্ন নামে পরিচিত ছিল। উত্তরবঙ্গে পূণ্ড্র ও বরেন্দ্র (অথবা বরেন্দ্রী), পশ্চিমবঙ্গের রাঢ় ও তাম্রলিপ্তি এবং দক্ষিণ ও পূর্ববঙ্গে বঙ্গ, সমতট, হরিকেল ও বঙ্গাল প্রভৃতি দেশ ছিল। এতদ্ভিন্ন উত্তর ও পশ্চিমবঙ্গের কতকাংশ গৌড় নামে সুপরিচিত ছিল। এই সমুদয় দেশের সীমা ও বিস্তৃতি সঠিক নির্ণয় করা যায় না, কারণ ভিন্ন ভিন্ন সময়ে তাহার বৃদ্ধি ও হ্রাস হইয়াছে। (Book Review: Amar eBook).
Bangladesher Itihas by Ramesh Chandra Majumdar is one of most popular History Books in Bangla. The Book is about History of Bangladesh. Ramesh Chandra Majumdar (in short R. C. Majumdar) was a historian and professor of Indian history. He was born on 4 December 1888 at Khandarpara, in Faridpur District, Bangladesh and His parents were Haladhar Majumdar and Bidhumukhi. R.C. Majumdar passed his childhood in poverty. In 1905, he passed his Entrance Examination from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. In 1907, he passed F.A. with first class scholarship from Ripon College (now Surendranath College) and joined Presidency College, Calcutta. Graduating in B.A.(Honours) in 1909 and MA from Calcutta University in 1911, he won the Premchand Roychand scholarship from the University of Calcutta for his research work in 1913. He was died on 11 February 1980.
