আল মাহমুদের আত্মজৈবনিক উপন্যাস 'যে পারো ভুলিয়ে দাও'। কবির গদ্যে এক অদ্ভুত সৌন্দর্য আছে। সামান্য কাহিনির বুননও পড়তে খুব ভালো লাগে কবির হাতের মাধুর্যে।
মোল্লাবাড়ির প্রধান পুরুষ বাদশা মোল্লা মারা গেছেন। মৃত্যু শুধু বাদশা মোল্লার একার জন্য পয়গাম আনেনি। যৌথ পরিবারের নানা জোড়াতালি দেওয়া সম্পর্কের বাঁধে ভাঙন ধরতে শুরু করে। হিংসা, দ্বেষ,ষড়যন্ত্র, কাম এবং বাঙালি মুসলমানের সংস্কৃতি আর মাহমুদ নামের এক কিশোরের বেড়ে ওঠা - সবই বর্ণিত হয়েছে বিভিন্ন ঘটন-অঘটনের পরম্পরায়।
'যেভাবে বেড়ে উঠি' পড়েই মুগ্ধতার গহীন অরণ্যে প্রবেশ করেছিলাম। আল মাহমুদের আত্মজীবনীর নির্ভর গদ্যের প্রতি আকর্ষণেই পড়লাম 'যে পারো ভুলিয়ে দাও'। আগেরটির মতো অতটা সুখপাঠ্য নয় এই উপন্যাসটি। এর কারণ হয়তো পুরো উপন্যাস জুড়ে মাহমুদ নামের কিশোরটির ক্ষীণ পদচারণা।
উপন্যাসের নামকরণের সার্থকতার প্রশ্ন উঠলে বলব, নামের সাথে কাহিনির সাযুজ্য নেই। হয়তো নিজের বাল্যের, কৈশোরের সময়ের সেই ঘটনাবহুল দিনগুলিকে ইঙ্গিত করেই কবি লিখেছেন, 'যে পারো ভুলিয়ে দাও '। (Book Review: Good Reads)
