মঙ্গলকাব্য মধ্যযুগীয় বাংলা সাহিত্যের এক বিশেষ ধারা। দেবমাহাত্ম্যমূলক সমাজচিত্রভিত্তিক এ কাব্যই বাংলা সাহিত্যের প্রথম ও নিজস্ব কাহিনীকাব্য। এ কাব্য পাঠ বা শ্রবণ করলে সকল প্রকার অকল্যাণ নাশ ও সর্ববিধ মঙ্গল লাভ হয় এরূপ ধারণা থেকেই এর নাম হয়েছে মঙ্গলকাব্য। মঙ্গলকাব্য পালা হিসেবে গীত হতো, তবে এতে সুর অপেক্ষা কাহিনীই বেশি প্রাধান্য পেত।প্রতিটি মঙ্গলকাব্যে একেকজন দেবতার মাহাত্ম্য বর্ণিত হয়েছে। এঁরা লৌকিক দেবতার সঙ্গে পৌরাণিক দেবতার সংমিশ্রণে সৃষ্ট বাঙালির নিজস্ব দেবতা। বহিরাগত আর্যদেবতাদের বিরুদ্ধে অনেক সংগ্রাম করে এঁদেরকে প্রতিষ্ঠা লাভ করতে হয়েছে। আর্যদেবতাদের বিরুদ্ধে এই বিজয়ের কারণে মঙ্গলকাব্যের ‘মঙ্গল’ শব্দটি ‘বিজয়’ অর্থেও গ্রহণ করা হয়। এমনকি কোনো কোনো মঙ্গলকাব্যের নামের সঙ্গে ‘বিজয়’ শব্দটি সংযুক্তও হয়েছে, যেমন বিপ্রদাস পিপিলাইয়ের মনসাবিজয়।মঙ্গলকাব্যের প্রধান দেবতারা হচ্ছেন মনসা, চন্ডী ও ধর্মঠাকুর। এঁদের মধ্যে মনসা ও চন্ডী এই দুই স্ত্রীদেবতার প্রাধান্য বেশি। এই তিনজনকে কেন্দ্র করে মঙ্গলকাব্যের প্রধান তিনটি ধারা গড়ে উঠেছে মনসামঙ্গল, চন্ডীমঙ্গল ও ধর্মমঙ্গল। কালক্রমে শিবঠাকুরও মঙ্গলকাব্যের বিষয় হিসেবে অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়েছেন এবং তৎকেন্দ্রিক কাব্যধারার নাম শিবায়ন বা শিবমঙ্গল। সূত্রঃ বাংলা পিডিয়া।
Bangla Mangal Kabyer Itihas by Ashutosh Bhattacharya is a Popular Bangla Book and another popular book about History of Literature of Mangal Kabya . Ashutosh Bhattacharya was writer, folklorist. He was born at his maternal uncle's home in Jhalua village of kishoreganj district on 17 January 1909, son of Murari Mohan Bhattacharya, a lawyer.A meritorious student, Ashutosh passed the Matriculation in 1926 from Kishoreganj English High School and IA in 1928 from Dhaka Intermediate College. In 1931 he passed BA (Hons) in Sanskrit and Bangla and in 1932 MA in Bangla from Dhaka University. He also obtained the PhD degree in 1959 from the same university. He was died on 1984.
