কলিকাতায় পড়াশোনা করছিলেন জসীম উদদীন। এমনসময় তার সাথে পরিচয় হয় ঠাকুরবাড়ির অবনীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের দৌহিত্র মোহনলালের সঙ্গে। এই পরমসুহৃদ মোহনলাল ই তাকে নিয়ে যান রবীন্দ্রনাথেরর কাছে,পরিচয় করিয়ে দেন তাকে।
যে কবির কবিতা, গল্প আর উপন্যাস এতকাল পড়ে এসেছেন এবার তারঁ সান্নিধ্য পাচ্ছেন তা তরুণ জসীম উদদীনকে আন্দোলিত করে,অনুপ্রাণিত করে সাহিত্য চর্চায়। রবিঠাকুরের শান্তিনিকেতন আর ঠাকুরবাড়িতে যাতায়াত যেন অনেকটা নিয়মিত হয়ে যায় তরুণ কবি জসীম উদদীনের জন্য।ঠাকুরবাড়িতে ঘরভাড়া নিয়ে দীর্ঘকাল কাটান তিনি।
রবীন্দ্রনাথ জসীম উদদীনকে কাব্য রচনায় কীভাবে প্রভাবিত করেছেন তার সহজ-সরল অথচ অতিমুগ্ধকর বর্ণনা রয়েছে এই বইতে।
