সমরেশ মজুমদারের ‘আত্মপক্ষ’ উপন্যাসে তীব্র হয়ে আছে সমকাল। শিবচরণপুর গ্রামের গগন কলকাতার এক প্রাইভেট গাড়ির ড্রাইভার। মায়ের জরুরী ডাকে সে গ্রামে ফিরে শোনে গ্রামবাসীদের জমি বিক্রি করতে প্রলুব্ধ করছে এক ধনী ব্যক্তি, পঞ্চায়েত কর্তারও মত জমি বেচার পক্ষে। ককাতায় ফিরে গগন একজন সাংবাদিকের কাছে জানতে পারে সরকার শিল্পস্থাপনের জন্য শিবচরণপুরে প্রচুর জমি অধিগ্রহন করবে, ক্রমে এই জমি নিয়ে শুরু হয় বিরোধ। সরকারি পার্টির লোক জমি অধিগ্রহণের পক্ষে। বিরোধী দলের লোকজন জমি অধিগ্রহণের বিরুদ্ধে। সূচনা হয় এক ভ্রাতৃঘাতী লড়াইয়ের। পুলিশ গুলি চালালে আরও অগ্নিগর্ভ হয়ে ওঠে গ্রাম।দারিদ্র্যপীড়িত, নিরাপত্তাহীন, অসহায় গ্রামীণ মানুষের রক্তে ভিজে যায় বাঙলার মাটি। জনপ্রিয় লেখকের কলমে উঠে এসেছে অনিবার্্য প্রশ্ন – কীসের যুদ্ধ ? কারা এই যুদ্ধের বলি হচ্ছে।
Atmapakkha by Samaresh Majumdar is a popular Bengali novel which is written by Samaresh Majumdar. The book is another romantic novel of Samaresh Majumdar. Samaresh Majumdar is popular Indian Bengali writer. He is well know as creator of "Arjun" Character. Samaresh Majumdar was born on 10th March 1942. His childhood years were spent in the tea gardens of Duars. He obtained his elementary education in Jalpaiguri District School. He received his graduation degree in Bengali from Scottish Church College, Kolkata and his Masters degree from Calcutta University respectively. He was professionally involved with the principal publishing corporation called Ananda Bazar Prakashana. Dour was his first novel, which was published in Desh in 1976.
