চরিত্র : রাজা দুষ্মন্ত - প্রধান চরিত্র। ভারতবর্ষের সম্রাট। শকুন্তলার সাথে তাঁর পরিণয় হয়।
সারথি- রাজা দুষ্মন্তের রথের সারথিদুই তপস্বী- মহর্ষি কণ্বের আশ্রমের দুই তপস্বী ব্রাহ্মণ। রাজা দুষ্মন্তকে সোমতীর্থে যাওয়ার আমন্ত্রণ করেন।মহর্ষি কণ্ব- শকুন্তলাকে প্রতিপালন করেন।
শকুন্তলা- প্রধান চরিত্র। শকুন্ত পাখি তাকে রক্ষা করে এবং মহর্ষি কণ্ব তাঁকে প্রতিপালন করেন। পরে রাজা দুষ্মন্তের সঙ্গে তাঁর পরিণয় হয়।
অনসূয়া- শকুন্তলার সখিপ্রিয়ংবদা- শকুন্তলার সখি।
